About the Role
Role within our Kingdom:
Game developers at King build amazing experiences. Our job is to give them the tools to do it faster and better. We architect and design SDKs that connect game client code to game engines, back-end services, and platform infrastructure across iOS, Android, Windows, and the web. When we ship something good, every game team at King benefits.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build and maintain SDK modules that game teams rely on every day
- Own your work end to end: from understanding the requirement, writing a spec, and building the feature, to helping other teams integrate it
- Review code, give honest feedback, and welcome it on your own work
- Investigate live issues, profile performance, fix bugs, and chip away at tech debt. I.e. the full picture, not just the exciting parts
- Collaborate with engineers across King, and sometimes with non-engineers, to find the best solution
Skills to create thrills:
You care about your craft. You write code you are proud of, and you ask questions when something doesn't make sense.
- Excellent team working skills, with a collaborative mindset and experience in pair programming and mob programming with colleagues
- Strong C++ programming language skills, with experience including the following areas:
- Modern C++ (We currently use C++23)
- Concurrent programming techniques and best practices
- Generic programming and templating techniques
- Passion for software development and quality
- Good at both sharing and taking in ideas. Our work often involves collaborating with teams across the company to achieve consensus when problem solving
- Able to adapt to the task at hand. We work with both development and support tasks
- Experience using Git version control system
Bonus points:
- We support the following platforms/SDKs, experience developing for any or all of them is an advantage: iOS, Android, Windows (win32 and GDK), Emscripten, Unity, macOS and Linux
- Working with CMake or Bazel for build configuration
- Python scripting
- SDK or library development
- Experience with CI pipelines, especially Jenkins: setting them up, keeping them stable, and knowing how to fix issues when builds fail
- Ability to work with a high degree of independence while keeping people in the loop
