We are looking for a Pipeline Technical Director to join our team who design, develop, and support Unreal Engine–based production tools and workflows for Brown Bag Films’ linear animation pipeline, across studio teams and overseas outsource partners.
The role plays a key part in evolving a scalable, production‑proven Unreal pipeline, enabling high‑quality episodic content while improving efficiency, stability, and artist adoption across productions.
Key Deliverables:
- Development of Unreal Engine production tools, and pipeline integrations.
- DCC pipeline tools and systems.
- Clearly documented workflows and technical processes.
- Reliable technical production support for internal teams and outsource partners.
Success Measures:
- Completion of development phases within estimated bid and sprint timelines.
- Resolution of support tickets within agreed SLA’s.
- Feedback from Production Managers and CG Heads of Department.
- Stability, reliability, and adoption of Unreal Engine tools in production.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, document, and maintain production tools and systems, with a strong focus on Unreal Engine workflows, integrating into the wider CG pipeline.
- Develop Unreal Engine tools, plugins, automation, and supporting scripts.
- Support Unreal Engine and pipeline workflows, including overseas outsource partner studios.
- Provide technical guidance to artists and production teams on workflow design, optimization, and best practices.
- Attend production operational meetings to represent the pipeline team and provide technical input.
- Collaborate closely with a centrally managed pipeline development team.
- Use source control and structured deployment workflows to safely deliver code into production.
- Take technical ownership of Unreal Engine pipeline systems and workflows.
- Drive continuous improvement of Unreal and CG production pipelines.
- Advise artists and other Technical Directors on production planning and workflow changes.
- Collaborate with Department Heads to resolve high‑impact, production‑critical technical issues.
Requirements:
Knowledge & Experience:
- Proven professional experience as a Pipeline Technical Director or similar role in animation, episodic, or feature film production.
- Strong, production‑proven experience with Unreal Engine in a high‑end production environment.
- Solid understanding of the full CG production pipeline and how Unreal integrates other DCC.
- Experience working with asset and production tracking systems (e.g. ShotGrid).
- Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and support robust pipeline workflows under production pressure.
Technical Skills:
- Advanced Python development skills.
- Strong Unreal Engine development experience, including editor tools, automation, and pipeline integration.
- Good working knowledge of Maya and DCC‑to‑Unreal workflows.
- Experience with Unreal’s Blueprints would be beneficial.
- Experience integrating tools with production tracking systems.
- Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and improve existing tools and workflows across departments.
- Experience with real‑time or linear animation production in Unreal Engine.
- Experience supporting outsource‑heavy or multi‑site productions.
Salary: €65,000 - €75,000 per annum
