About the Role

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the level design process for a AAA-quality game project.
  • Create and maintain level design documentation, including flowcharts, blockouts, and written specifications.
  • Design and build engaging, fun, and visually compelling levels from concept to final polish.
  • Mentor and guide junior level designers, providing feedback and ensuring quality standards.
  • Collaborate closely with game design, art, programming, and production teams to achieve a cohesive vision.
  • Prototype and iterate on level layouts, pacing, and gameplay scenarios using in-house or external tools.
  • Optimize levels for performance and memory while maintaining design intent.
  • Participate in playtests, gather feedback, and implement design improvements.
  • Review and evaluate level design work from team members and external contributors.

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of professional experience as a Level Designer, with at least 1 year in a Lead or Senior capacity.
  • Shipped at least one AAA title on PC or console (PS4/PS5, Xbox One/Series X|S) as a Level Designer.
  • Expert proficiency with a major game engine (Unreal Engine 4/5 strongly preferred; Unity considered).
  • Strong understanding of level design principles: pacing, flow, encounter design, environmental storytelling, and player guidance.
  • Proven ability to create detailed blockouts and whitebox levels.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Haves):

  • Experience with open-world level design.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Blueprints, Lua, or visual scripting).
  • Background in modding or custom map creation.
  • Experience with Perforce, SVN, or Git for version control.
  • Understanding of 3D art pipelines and asset creation.
  • Knowledge of game analytics and playtesting methodologies.
